Our Gift to the Shift

Our Gift to the Shift

Natural Awakenings is a wonderful local publication that connects all of us who are…well, naturally awakening. It connects healers with those who want true healing, sages with seekers, teachers with students, and the health conscious with sources of healthy nutrition, inspiring exercise, and other wellness and longevity practices. Perhaps most importantly, it gives us a sense of community.

Each month readers are introduced to an ever widening circle of people and their businesses in the local area that are all part of the planetary paradigm shift of higher consciousness, with its natural consequences of happiness, health, peace, simplicity, sustainability, and connection.  Along with all the articles, news briefs and advertising, there is a calendar filled with classes and events and a Community Resource Guide to local health practitioners and other businesses.  Thumbing though the pages, it is like a family album of those of us who are bound by the common principles of right livelihood and service to the cause of making the world a better place.

Our local publication is one guiding star in a constellation of more than eighty similar franchises around the country that publish a combined total of about 1.4 million magazines every month given away for free! What an amazing gift to the shift.

I was invited to join Natural Awakenings about eight months ago by Sharon Bruckman, the founder and CEO of Natural Awakenings Publishing Corporation. NAPC is a beehive of publishing activity, turning out about thirty carefully crafted articles and briefs every month with associated graphics and layout, and providing this to all the publishers who then add local content.

Sharon and I go back a long way. I was on her original Board of Advisors when she started the first magazine 17 years ago. I have admired her steadfast determination throughout many years of trials, tribulations and plain hard work to shepherd this growing flock of amazing publishers to success. Almost exactly a year ago, I mentioned to Sharon that, while she has done such a nice job with the magazine, I thought the magazines’ Internet presence was lacking. I offered, as a friend, to research the best way to integrate all of her years of great content onto the web and provide a dynamic way for her readers and advertisers to connect. After several months of volunteer work finding the right platform and concept, she hired me to execute the plan.

So, here you have it; our new websites. Along with the first three sites serving North Chicago and the North Shore, Fairfield County, CT, and Collier and Lee Counties in Southwest Florida, and about twenty more under construction, we have a new National site to reach into all the areas that do not have local magazines. Our mission continues to be to contribute to awakening our society to the potential and paths of creating a world of peace, justice, joy and balance with the biosphere. Now we can all reach a whole new audience.  It is all very exciting.

Yet, this is just the birth, and our sites are just seedlings of their potential to contribute to the natural awakening of our communities. We invite you to join us in creating a ever-widening matrix of local connections that will bring us together in new, powerful ways. Freed of the space limitations of print, online we now offer free Community Resource Guide listings for approved non-profits, free Calendar listings for our advertisers and approved non-profits, and free Classifieds for everyone. We have space for inspiring, skilled local and national writers to contribute blogs on a wide variety of topics. There is space for videos; if you produce one that is instructive, good quality and largely non-commercial, we will likely add it for free. We can expand our promotions of special events and non-profit causes. There is so much potential.

As each of us is contributing in our own way, these websites are Natural Awakenings newest Gift to the Shift. Giving special acknowledgement and extra exposure to our advertisers who make all of this possible, we want our new local website to support everyone who is contributing to the cause of planetary wholeness, and help connect us all in mutual support and celebration.

So, take a look at the site that matches your location. It is like a Christmas tree with a few early decorations. Find a spot where you would like to hang your gift. It could be a display ad, an advertising editorial, the local resource guide, national directory, calendar or classified listing, a video or blog. If you have any other ideas, please let us know. And sign up for our newsletters that will announce new events, contests, coupon offers, special advertising packages, and gatherings. It is all about getting connected and supporting each other in giving our Gift to the Shift.

I found NA when I first moved back to Jax, 3 years ago. It is an understatement to say not only Jax, but I have changed tremendously in the 42 years since my high school graduation. Natural Awakenings was then and is now the best source to find the shops and events I am most interested in.

Natural Awakenings is also the best place to keep like minded people up to day on the many workshops, classes, meditation and Sunday services offered at Unity Church for Creative Living. As a member of the Board of Trustees at UCCL, I can truely say NA has helped get the UCCL message out...

Freddie, Katie and Staff.. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
