Chinese Health Gem of the Month: Washing Away Age Spots

by Rene Ng, AP, L.Ac.

You have most likely noticed them on the body, especially on the arms and legs––those small, round dark circles called “age spots.” In Chinese Medicine, they are consideered symptoms of a slow circulatory system due to the liver organ not functioning at a optimum level, primariy resulting from natural aging processes of the body and the organ system. And for many people, as they grow older, so does the number of their age spots.

One mode of addressing and removing them which the Chinese use is fresh lemon. On a daily basis, cut out a small piece of lemon and rub it on the age spots. Do this at least three times per day. The sour acidity from the lemon has a therapeutic effect on the liver, and the juice can help diminish or eliminate the age spots in most cases. Give this method a shot. You have nothing to lose––except those age spots.
