New Yoga Group Will Make You Laugh
Everybody loves to laugh, and isn’t it nice that something we all love to do is good for us too! Yoga SRQ has started a Laughter Yoga Group that meets every Wednesday at 11:00am at Yoga SRQ, 405 S. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on scientific data showing that the body cannot tell the difference between fake and real laughter, and that both provide the same physiological and psychological benefits. Laughter Yoga combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing. Laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group; with eye contact and childlike playfulness. Initial forced laughter soon turns into real and contagious laughter. Wear comfy clothing. No yoga experience needed. All ages and abilities. Chairs are provided. Easy access, no stairs. Classes are donation.
In one international study on Laughter Yoga, significant drops in heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol level were observed, and positive emotions increased by 17%. Also, negative emotions dropped by 27%, perceived stress dropped significantly, and improvement in emotional intelligence was implied. There are many benefits to laughing, and it is something everyone can enjoy!
