Mind, Body, Spirit: The Real Cure for Cancer

by Dr. Rene Ng, DACM, AP, L.Ac.

Cancer is a horrific illness that can affect any one of us. Unfortunately, even despite the new technologies and medications, cancer incidents are also on the rise. In fact, according to a recent study from the National Cancer Institute, “in 2018, an estimated 1,735,350 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the USA, and 609,640 people will die from the disease.” This is a frightening statistic. The main reason why cancer, along with a host of other chronic ailments such as autoimmune diseases, are so prevalent can be attributed to three factors:

  • our immune systems have become weaker
  • our environment has become more toxic and polluted
  • our overall mental, spiritual and emotional health has deteriorated

Understanding Cancer

The American Cancer Society defines cancer as a “collection of related diseases in which some of the body’s cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues.” Each of our bodies will deveop cancer cells, but for most of us, in the course of our lives, our immune systems remain strong enough to keep these rogue cells under control, so we are not affected. However, some people are not as fortunate, and are diagnosed with cancer.

Fighting Cancer

In order to effectively fight cancer, we first need to understand why cancer is able to exist and profilerate. Each cell in the body undergoes a normal life growth and development, then at the end of this cycle, the cell dies through a process called apoptosis. In the situation behind cancers, however, the apoptosis is impaired, and some of the cells live longer than they are supposed to. When this happens, they start to mutate into harmful, rogue cells which eventually bond together to form tumors and malignant tissues.

Cancer cells are just another form of living organisms which need the right environment to survive and the right source of nourishment to feed on. So if we are able to discern how the body provided this essential requirement for the cancer cells and then eliminate this root cause, we can make the body uninhabitable for these cancer cells to live.

The Mind-Body-Spirit Nucleus of Health

We are all creatures of energy. We live on energy, we breathe energy, we exert energy, and we are impacted by energy. The energy in our environment becomes and more toxic by the day, and we are doing our best to combat this with natural products, organic foods and essential oils but we can only do so much. The real key is keeping the immune system healthy and strong. The immune system refers to the quality of our blood and circulation. If that is smooth and healthy, our natural defenses will be strengthened, and diseases will find it difficult to prevail.

Unfortunately, improper diet and lack of exercise are not the only factors that can impair circulation. The major detrimant is actually our mental health. Emotions have a more significant part in harming our bodies than most people think. In Chinese Medicine, the lungs are injured by grief, the kidneys by fear, the liver by anger and depression, the spleen by worrying, and the heart from over-excitement.

These organs are all critical to the production and circulation of blood. And even worse, as the organs are mutually dependent and continuously interact with each other to keep us alive, their impairment can lead to a reduced oxygen intake in our bodies.

It is difficult, if not impossible, for cancer cells to survive in an oxygen-rich environment, and therefore, the weakening of our organs makes our bodies more conducive to cancer growth. Even in cancer remission, we need to repair and improve our mental health, otherwise the chances of the cancer returning will increase. Maintaining a healthy emotional state leads to a healthy mind, body and spirit which, in turn, leads to a strong circulatory and immune system.

In Summary

Cancer is not a death sentence. There are beneficial treatments in Western medicine, such as chemotherapy and radiation, that can manage the cancer’s spread and even eradicate a current crop in the body. There are also a wide variety of effective natural treatment options such as Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, immunotherapy, ozone therapies or anti-cancer diets that form a formidable arsenal of cancer eliminating weapons.

However, the real key to keeping the body cancer-free and winning the battle against currently active cancer in the body is maintaining solid mental health. A strong and healthy mind, body and spirit helps to keep our bodily defenses top-notch. As humans, we cannot avoid sickness, but it is how fast we are able to recover from our ailments and how much we are able to prevent the spread of illness that determines the quality of life for each and every one of us.
