Don’t Fall for Phishing
Phishing is an e-mail message that appears to come from a company you do business with. Many people manage bank or brokerage accounts and handle insurance matters online. So, phishers take the names of those familiar businesses to scam their victims.
A phishing message will imitate a reputable company, right down to the corporate logo. You'll be asked to click a website link, then enter personal and confidential information. You'll read some reasonable-sounding story pertaining to your account. Then, you’ll be prompted to “confirm” or “re-submit” your secure information including passwords.
Don’t ever fall for this! There’s a 100% chance that, if an e-mail asks you to visit a site and type in your password or additional information, it’s a scam. If you get a suspicious e-mail from a company you do business with, call their customer service department. Ask a real human being if they have e-mailed you, requesting “inside information.” The answer will be “no.”
