Letter from the Publisher November 2017

Another holiday season is here, and as we enter this festive time of year, I’m reminded to pause and express gratitude for the simple pleasures in life––the beauty of nature, the gift of wellness and the love of relationships, to name just a few.

This month, in particular, is about being mindful of how enriched and abundant our lives are when we can slow down long enough to take notice. The November issue of Natural Awakenings is full of inspiration to help you become centered in each moment and reflect on your blessings as we approach this season of thanks.

Our feature article for this month is on “Diabetes Prevention and Reversal” which offers both natural and practical advice for changing your lifestyle to decrease the risk of diabetes onset. Some of these suggestions include engaging in cardiovascular exercise, eating nutrient-dense whole foods and limiting sugar intake, being more conscious of environmental toxins, and practicing stress-relievers such as yoga, qigong or tai chi. These ideas are also beneficial for keeping yourself grounded in the midst of that holiday “hustle and bustle.”

Speaking of maintaining inner calm during this hectic time of year, our “Healing Ways” article focuses on the value of taking a silent retreat for personal awareness, introspection and healthy stress management. Even if you’re unable to take an actual retreat, joining a local meditation group or making time for yourself on a consistent basis can help you feel invigorated, renewed and more in tune with your own peace of mind.

Finally, since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, this issue would not be complete without some festive, mouth-watering recipes. Our “Conscious Eating” article for this month is all about reinventing a seasonal favorite––stuffing––with a healthier twist. So feel free to indulge in that second helping––no fear of holiday pounds here! And let’s not overlook the community aspect of this season either. Our “Shareable Thanksgiving” article is packed with creative ideas for spreading joy to our neighbors around the entire Suncoast area.

As usual, that’s just a sampling of all the enlightenment and entertainment that awaits you inside this issue. Please send any comments, questions or general feedback to Publisher@NASRQ, and here’s wishing you readers the happiest of Thanksgivings!
