If you missed out on the state of Florida Solar rebate program and wondered if you would ever get the chance again to make your own power, well wonder no more! Starting June 21st, FPL will offer cash rebates to customers who install solar water heating or photovoltaic (PV) systems in their homes and businesses. The rebates are part of a five-year pilot program approved by the Florida Public Service Commission.
Funding is limited and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis. Prospective customers can visit www. fpl.com to create an account. Once the account is set up you can visit FPL.com/solarrebates beginning May 31st and download an application checklist. During the time leading up to the June 21st launch date it is advised that you find a solar contractor, have your home or business evaluated and prepare a contract so you will be ready when the program kicks off. You will not be able to submit an application before June 21st so it is imperative that you have all your homework done prior to the launch date, as program administrators believe the rebate money will go quickly. FPL had not released figures pertaining to how much money will be available, however what is released will supply all areas in the state that are serviced by FPL.
The rebate programs are:
Residential Solar Water Heating -
Customers may get a one-time rebate of $1,000 for installing a solar water heating system.
Residential PV -
Customers may get a one-time rebate of $2 per watt of the DC rating of the solar panels, up to $20,000.
Business Solar Water Heating -
Customers may get a variable one-time rebate based on the size of the system installed, up to a maximum of $50,000 per premise* during the life of the program. Customers with multiple locations can receive a maximum combined rebate for their locations of up to $150,000 per funding year.
Business Photovoltaic (PV) -
Customers may get a variable one-time rebate depending on the DC rating of the solar panels, up to a maximum of $50,000 per premise* during the life of the program. Customers with multiple locations can receive a maximum combined rebate for their locations of up to $150,000 per funding year.
Get Educated, Get Ready, Get Set, Go!
This particular program is unlike the previous state run program. Applications will only be accepted until the money available is accounted for. So if you want to take advantage of the program it is imperative that you be proactive. To that end Tri County Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. has created a solar education website to help make it as easy as possible for property owners to take advantage of the program. Just visit www.solarinflorida.com and you will find information on the rebate program as well as detailed information on photovoltaics that will help you decide what is best for your home or business.
Tri County Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. has also partnered with QwikSolar to provide consumers with on the best photovoltaic systems on the market. QwikSolar is one of the most technologically advanced solar electric systems available today. QwikSolar uses REC solar panels, Enphase Micro-Inverters and Unirac mounting systems.
Together, these components are professionally engineered by the QwikSolar team, which has over 30 years of combined solar experience. The system is specifically engineered for your home. It takes into consideration everything from the angle of your roof, nearby shading, weather conditions, and even the structure of your home to design a system that will produce power for 25 years and beyond. QwikSolar is NABCEP Installer level certified as well as HERS rating certified in 48 states.
Tri County Air Conditioning & Heating, Inc. plans to hold several “Solar Parties” throughout the area in an effort to educate potential customers and provide assistance during the application process. To find a “Solar Party” in your area visit www. solarinflorida.com or call 941-404-4664. You can also schedule an onsite visit to have your property evaluated by one of their trained solar professionals to ensure that you receive the proper size system for you needs.
“We’re really excited about being able to give people the opportunity to produce their own energy,” says Bill Swanson, President of Tri County Air Conditioning & Heating.
“We can’t stress enough, however, how important it is to act quickly so you don’t miss another chance to become more energy independent.”
The dates to remember are May 31st to begin downloading the application, and June 21st to submit the application. In the meantime do your homework so you’re ready when the program goes live. Progress Energy offered a similar program in the Tampa area and the available funds were gone in less than 4 hours! Industry professionals expect a similar time frame for the FPL program. So don’t wait, get ready to get your share of Their Money, Your Power!
