University Park Contributes To HUGSS

Oct 03, 2011 04:00PM

University Park Country Club residents have donated $3,400 to the Eternal Bread of Life (EBOL) Outreach back-to-school drive. Each year, the residents of University Park choose several nonprofits to support through fundraisers. For the past 17 years, EBOL’s HUGSS (Helping Us Give School Supplies) & Smiles program has purchased new clothes, school supplies and backpacks for boys and girls in need.

“We choose charities that don’t receive national funding, then make it a community competition to get as many residents involved as possible,” comments Jan LaBarr, President of University Park Community Association. The funds allow EBOL to purchase two sets of uniforms for each of the 380 children they’re assisting this year. “We like to contribute to organizations such as this because they are really aware of the needs of people in our community and know how to best help them,” explains John Neal, developer of University Park.

Rev. Neil and Shirley McArthur, EBOL Directors, received the supplies and check at the University Park Lifestyles Sales and Information Center from representatives of University Park Community AssociationIn addition to cash, residents contributed items such as polo shirts, trousers, socks, underwear, sneakers, pens, highlighters, backpacks and notebooks.
