ReFlex Arts at 6260 N.Lockwood Ridge Rd. (on University Parkway) in Sarasota offers classes in creative writing and journaling designed to help aspiring writers discover their authentic voice and refine the techniques and tools of authentic expression.
Writing can be a deeply introspective process, all forms serving to help us make sense of our lives, deepening our awareness and our connections to the world at large. With the guidance of an experienced writing teacher, these classes help students learn to hone their skills, unleash their creativity, and expand their mastery of the written word as a path to impacting lives, the author’s and those touched by his or her work.
Several classes are scheduled, including Creative Journaling on Sundays at 11:15am. This course offers creative prompts and exercises to forge a deeper understanding of ourselves, our relationships, and helps define our personal path to happiness. Creative Writing, offered on Mondays at 2pm, focuses on memoir and fiction writing as a venue for unleashing the stories we’ve lived and the stories that live within us. Exercise, critique sessions and feedback help students evolve their writing to become more poignant and effective communicator.
The instructor, Ginny East, has an Master’s in Fine Arts in creative writing from Lesley University. She has won numerous literary awards, is a published author, and has taught writing courses in Georgia and Florida.
