Season Begins for King Family Farm and Market

Nov 21, 2011 12:10PM

King Family Farm and Market at 4630 60th Street East, (Caruso Road) in Bradenton opened for season in late October.

New this year is the addition of credit card shopping for added customer convenience, and a new website that is updated as fresh crops are harvested. As of press time, a plethora of fall veggies were available, including beets, eggplant, kohlrabi, sweet corn, peppers, and, of course, pie pumpkins and squash. Heirloom tomatoes are also on tap, in small, medium and large sizes. And don’t forget the fresh-cut flowers. Zinnias were in full bloom at the end of October.

A variety of breads from the Bavarian Bread Company in Sarasota will be available on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Dairy from the Dakin Dairy Farm in Myakka City and juices from Mixon Fruit Farms will also be available.

The Farm’s honey has just been harvested. Shelby King noted that the honey is Brazilian pepper and mangrove, so it is a little strong. “If you’re having trouble with allergies and live around here, this honey may just help relieve some of those symptoms,” she said.
