Classical Hatha Yoga featured at New Center

Nov 21, 2011 12:50PM

Vishnu Das, a senior disciple of His Divine Grace Swami Ramakrishnananda, has opened Ramakrishnananda Yoga Center of Florida at 2888 Ringling Blvd in Sarasota. The Center offers classical Hatha Yoga on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6pm to 7:30pm. Classes are open to all, health permitting; no experience is necessary. On Friday nights, the sessions are followed with Kirtan, a joyful devotional practice of chanting the Holy names of God, accompanied by instruments and drums.

Ramakrishnananda Yoga places an emphasis on a meditative practice, supported by steady awareness to the body and mind, deep relaxation, and conscious and deep breathing. All of this creates an optimum condition for meditation to occur naturally, which is the objective of all yogic practices. It is based on 12 of the main Hatha Yoga postures, or asanas, and their many variations.

In 2008, Vishnu Das met Swami Ramakrishnananda in New York City, and was accepted as a monastic disciple. This monastic period lasted for 19 months, after which he became fully authorized to teach Ramakrishnananda Yoga.

Vishnu welcomes new students. He stated, “I hope that through this service I may remain connected to my spiritual lineage and through which, receive the grace to be able to teach hatha-yoga to all who are eager and receptive to learn.”
