Rescue a Dalmatian for the Holidays

Dec 02, 2011 03:29PM

Dalmatian Rescue of Tampa Bay (DRTB) is asking Natural Awakenings readers to consider adopting a Dalmatian for the holidays.

DRTB was established in 2003 in response to the high number of Dalmatians being left in area shelters. To date, the organization has successfully placed more than 500 Dalmatians and Dal-mixes into new homes.

Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home as many Dalmatians from Florida shelters as possible. When resources permit, Dalmatians in surrounding states are helped, too.

The priority is to take the dogs facing euthanasia in high-kill facilities. DRTB spays/ neuters all dogs prior to placement and provides necessary medical treatment, allowing them to become adoptable.

Dalmatians are placed using online resources, then prospective owners are screened with home and veterinary-reference checks. Ongoing support and education is provided to all adopters.

DRTB houses about 20 Dalmatians as Care-For-Life dogs who cannot be placed due to age and/or medical conditions.
