This month we celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day. This is my favorite times of year. Not only do we have some of the best weather on the planet here on the Gulf Coast, but we have the opportunity to honor Mother Earth by celebrating Earth Day. This year marks the third anniversary of the Natural Awakenings’ Ecofest event. The pictures that you see in this letter are from last year’s Ecofest Sarasota event which we celebrate on April 14th. On March 17th and 18th we kicked of our month long celebration at Warm Mineral Springs in North Port. The experience was pure magic —with appearances by mermaids, conquistadors and pop stars.
Many of the companies participating in Ecofest demonstrate their commitment to our planet by presenting green and healthy living choices to attendees. They inform and bring awareness of sustainability in many areas of our life. And most importantly, they show us where to turn for services and products within our community that will help us be better Earth stewards.
These wonderful businesses will be with us on April 14th in downtown Sarasota for our upcoming Ecofest, so no worries, if you missed the Ecofest kick-off in North Port, you can experience the magic of Ecofest in Sarasota. For information on times and locations on these celebrations see our ad in the centerfold spread of the magazine.
This month also marks the beginning of our 2012 Natural Choice Awards balloting. This is your opportunity to recognize your favorite local businesses for the amazing job they do. From now until June 1st you can vote for the best our area has to offer in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Vote online at or fill out the ballot from the magazine on page 64 and mail or fax it into to us.
This issue will provide some great tips on greening your home this Spring and will help you prepare for the warmer months ahead. You’re guaranteed to be a little greener just by reading. May you enjoy this month’s content—hopefully somewhere out in nature.
