Putting this May 2012 Natural Awakenings together has boosted my spirits. I’m constantly amazed at how much there is going on locally. I’m grateful to be living in this vibrant community at this time in my life. The natural health movement is alive and well on the West Coast of Florida – and we are right here in the middle of it.
Our efforts are expanding to a more global outreach. We have been in the planning phases of a new and very different event that will take place in 2013. While I cannot divulge the nature of the event yet, it promises to put us on the map as a wellness destination. The Gulf Coast has long been a jewel to many, and next year we will shine on a national level.
Natural Awakenings has been so blessed to
have such great community support for both the magazine and events. In the past 5 years we have not only published over 90 magazines, but we have also produced eight Ecofest events, four Sarasota Naturally Events, three Natural Choice Awards, two 5k races, and one pet event. Thanks to our readers, staff and volunteers, we remain at the forefront of positive change in Southwest Florida. Our community nurtures an environment that makes all this possible, and for that we are very grateful.
This month we celebrate the nurturing half of our human equation with a focus on women’s wellness. How appropriate that we also celebrate “Mothers Day” on the second Sunday of this month.
In this issue of Natural Awakenings we pay tribute to our maternal side, focusing especially on good health and well-being. In “The Hormone Balancing Act” (page 50), writer Kathleen Barnes offers insight on the crucial role hormones play in our lives, highlighting natural strategies for being more hormonewise. In our Healthy Kids feature (page 54), writer Beth Davis shares “Mom-to-Mom Wisdom,” presenting numerous ways to realize a more holistic and natural approach to “conscious parenting”. This article offers tips from several savvy moms on ways to nurture any caring relationship. Be sure to check out our Health Spotlight this month (page 48) for information on breast thermography. And there is always the wide ranging calendar of events.
As always, this magazine is over flowing with cutting edge news on health and the multitude ways we all can achieve it. Open your mind and read on.
