Scallopalooza – Repay the Bay!

May 31, 2012 05:25PM

Please join Sarasota Bay Watch in partnership with the Sarasota Yacht Club for the 2nd Annual Scallopalooza – Repay the Bay, on Saturday, June 9, at 6pm. This promises to be an exciting evening of food and fun at the Sarasota Yacht Club’s beautiful facility, hosted by Past Commodore, Jeff Birnbach. Festivities include a cocktail hour, dinner, auction and presentations by Charlie Hunsicker, Director Manatee County Natural Resources Department and Ed Chiles, Restauranteur, CEO of The Chiles Group. Dress is coastal casual.

The scallop population in Sarasota Bay has been drastically reduced over the years. Florida Fish and Wildlife experts believe that by raising scallops in shellfish hatcheries and releasing the larvae into our local seagrass beds that a multi-year release program could result in a self-perpetuating local population. Last year, we exceeded our expectations and raised over $14,000 to initiate this restoration. Join us this year to help us break that record and sustain this initiative!

To register go to SarasotaBayWatch.org by Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 so you don’t miss your chance to be a part of this unique restoration effort. For additional information contact Ronda Ryan at 941-232-2363.
