Diwali Festival of Lights

Sep 28, 2012 04:10PM

Purnama Sari Balinese Performing Arts Company will hold a special event that celebrates the Hindu festival of Diwali with the Ramayana shadow puppet theater at Rising Tide International on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30pm.

Diwali is observed throughout India and Indian communities around the world this month. It is known as the Festival of Lights. People traditionally light small oil lamps to celebrate the triumph of Dharma (that which is in accord with the cosmic law) over Adharma (that which is not in accord with the cosmic law). Diwali also commemorates the return of Prince Rama and Princess Sita to their kingdom after 14 years of banishment in the Ramayana, the great Hindu epic. Diwali offers a wonderful opportunity to contemplate how we live according to the cosmic law, individually and collectively.

At their Diwali event, Purnama Sari will present the Ramayana shadow puppet theater in Balinese style, followed by prayers, chanting, and candle lighting. All the proceeds will be contributed to Rising Tide International New Sign Fund.
