Celebrate National Feral Cat Day on October 20 with “Blackcat” at Cat Depot
Cat lovers everywhere likely know of feral cats in their neighborhood, but sadly, most people don’t know how to deal with the problem. Local author Diana Maloney has written a kitty “autobiography,” Blackcat, to chronicle the life of a little homeless cat who was lucky enough to become a special member of a human family, and to carry some important messages that need to reach pet lovers everywhere. Maloney will make a personal appearance at Cat Depot on October 20 from 1 to 3pm to sign copies of Blackcat.
Alley Cat Allies created National Feral Cat Day® a decade ago to promote humane care for feral cats. Their efforts to share information and educate others on the importance of Trap-Neuter-Return have been supported year after year by caring individuals and groups, in small towns, big cities, and places in between.
In recognition of National Feral Cat Day, Cat Depot will hold a food bank drive for dry and wet cat food. All donations can be dropped off that day. The food bank opened to the community in September 2011 and has distributed over 7,000 lbs. of dry food and 1,500 cans of wet food to those supporting feral cats, and to those who are in need of wet and dry food for their own pets.
Cat Depot is located at 2547 17th Street, Sarasota. Visit catdepot.org or call 941-366-2404 for more information.
