Blessings to you in this New Year. A new beginning. A natural break in the tempo of our lives. A perfect opportunity to recharge and regenerate.
What do you want this New Year to bring? Imagine what your year would look like if, at the end of the year, everything you hoped would happen turned out even better than expected. Everything – your health, finances, career, relationships, dreams and goals.
Here’s a fun exercise. Take 10 minutes (or more) and daydream about your perfect life. You’ve reached all of your goals. You’re living your definition of a fulfilled and joyous life – financial independence, travel, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, owning a hobby farm, climbing Mt.Everest, a fulfilling relationship, new friends. Now, think about what dreams and goals you will embark upon after you’ve reached all the dreams and goals you have now. That’s what I’m talking about.
We too often think that “we will be happy when,” but there is always a next level, a new challenge, a new dream. Then, when we look back at a chapter in our lives, we think that it was a happier, more carefree time; or we see in retrospect that we should have – or could have – been happier.
But we all know that it mostly depends upon health, mental as well as physical. There are so many health issues that can keep us from living productive and vibrant lives. As Joni Mitchell sang so eloquently many years ago,“You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.” By reading Natural Awakenings, you’re educating yourself on how to enhance and improve your body and mind, and therefore your life.
A great example is this month’s Fit Body article “Stand Up and Move! How to Sizzle, not Fizzle.” Debra Melani gives us some great insight into why movement is so important. There is no time like now to start a routine that fits your personal lifestyle and goals that will benefit you for the rest of your life.
From a purely personal perspective, this magazine has helped me in many ways. I am forever grateful for the experiences and personalities that Natural Awakenings has brought my way over the past five and a half years, as well as the insights I have gained in working with the authors and topics that we present to our readers each month. The new year offers fresh opportunities to extend our reach, to offer words of hope and encouragement, and to suggest solutions for personal and community challenges.
Raise a glass to a year of new beginnings, goals, joy and contentment. And, most of all, to your health!
