Cat-friendly Amenities Offered at Brandt Veterinary Clinic

Brandt Veterinary Clinic in Nokomis has introduced some innovative ways to make cats feel more comfortable during examinations. Dr. Kate Brown, owner of the clinic, stated, “We understand cats. We know what they like and don’t like, and we’ve reconfigured our clinic to better serve them.”
One of the new features is a walkway that leads cats and their parents to a private area where there are no sounds of barking dogs or scents of other animals. Benches are provided for the carriers so they are at lap level, and the cats are moved from the waiting area into the cat-exclusive exam room as expediently as possible. To help relax the cats, pheromone is pumped into the air, the cats are examined where they are most comfortable (in the carrier, on a lap, in doughnut pillows on the exam table) and then they’re treated to a soothing massage.
The other innovation is the feline resort area called Cat Alley. Eight large, windowed feline-only enclosures are diffused with pheromones to lower anxiety. The enclosures include a medium and small room, so the cats can explore and find the most comfortable arrangement. Said Dr. Brown, “We try to do everything here from the cat’s perspective, to make the experience as pleasant as possible.”
