In Thailand, it’s an ancient technique known as Luk Pra Kob; in the United States, it’s called Thai Herbal Ball Massage. It’s a combination of four therapies: massage, thermal, aroma and herbal. High quality, mountain-grown organic herbs such as prai, tumeric, lemon grass, tamarind, safflower, rock salt and camphor; are wrapped in a cotton ball. The cotton ball is heated in a steamer, adjusted to your level of comfort, then used to apply pressure during the massage.
According to Marcy Yarborough, who offers Thai Herbal Ball Massage at the Gabriel Center, 2886 Ringling Blvd. in Sarasota, the different herbs have a therapeutic effect through application to your body and through inhalation, and the 90-minute treatment induces deep relaxation, relieves stress and fatigue, improves circulation and detoxifies the skin.
