Classes begin July 8 for the first session of the massage therapy diploma program at East West College of Natural Medicine. The 800-hour course is designed for completion within four terms in one year.
Dr. Robyn Criswell-Bloom, who became president of the College in mid-April, noted that the program is unique because, “We are a college, our instructors are academically credentialed, and we present our coursework in an advanced academic environment. It’s essentially a higher level of learning than one might achieve at other massage therapy schools.”
The program combines both classroom and practical study that includes the theory and clinical application of varied types of massage treatment. Classes include Introduction to Bodywork, Swedish Massage, Hydrotherapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Bodywork Survey courses to introduce students to other body therapies and how they can be included during a therapeutic session. Western Medicine including anatomy and physiology as well as applied pathology courses are also included.
“Because we are East and West, we offer a broader exposure to natural medicineand its complimentary therapy,” Dr. Bloom explained. “Classes are conducted year round with four terms per calendar year. Practice Management, Ethics, First Aid and CPR, HIV/AIDS education, Preventing Medical Errors, and Florida Massage Law courses are included to prepare the student to take their Licensure exam after graduation, and enter the field of massage therapy.”
