Rediscover Your Walk
Jul 01, 2013 06:56PM
Over the years our balance and postural patterns are impacted by accidents, operations, illnesses, stresses and the inevitable aging process. Aches and pains lead us to form new movement habits as a way to compensate for the loss of our natural dexterity.
On Saturday, July 20th, from 9:30am to 5pm at Ionie’s in downtown Sarasota, Bonnie Kissam M.A., a Feldenkrais® Practitioner, guides you to become consciously aware of the unconscious movement patterns that limit your pleasure of walking (for example, your right arm moves more than your left arm as you walk). Awareness is heightened by the mind listening to what your movements are telling your body. Invest the time and attention necessary to notice habitual movement patterns and discover new movement possibilities, regardless of your age or condition.
This is not a “walking” walking workshop. You start by sitting in a chair or using it as a prop for support, and then spend most of the time lying on the floor to zoom into the details of how your torso moves to support a more fluid, balanced walk or run. Become your own Better Balance coach during this day-long seminar about Your Walking Engine, your torso.
