Gentle Chair Yoga at Yoga SRQ
One of the great things about yoga is that it is so adaptive to different populations with diverse physical abilities and needs. Though the popular image of yoga is of a young person twisted up with apparent ease like a pretzel, those who are older and less fl exible can enjoy a yoga practice just as much, and potentially benefi t from it even more.
Chair yoga is a gentle style of yoga you can do from a (mostly) seated position that also incorporates the breathing and mind-body benefi ts of a traditional class. Chair yoga adapts traditional yoga poses so that they can be done with a chair for support, making yoga more accessible for people who cannot stand for long periods. Anyone with arthritis, back, knee, hip or shoulder issues, or any physical limitation, can benefi t from a gentle chair yoga. It’s yoga for every body!
Chair yoga is available at Yoga SRQ, which is owned by Robyn Marin, E-Registered Yoga Teacher. Hours are Fridays in March from 2 to 3 p.m.
