Garden of the Heart Offers Yoga for Vets Outreach

The Seva Yoga Program at Garden of the Heart Yoga Center, in partnership with Goodwill Manasota, will offer free yoga classes to Sarasota’s Veterans. Cheryl Chaffee, ERYT-200 RYT-500, is teaching classes at the Sarasota Vet Center on Swift Road and at the Goodwill “Mecca” Community Room on U.S. 41 just south of University Parkway.

Chaffee has advanced training in Warriors at Ease, a specialty yoga program for veterans, which was developed in conjunction with the US Dept. of Defense. It is taught at Walter Reed and other VA hospitals around the country. Yoga has been shown to help veterans who are suffering from post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, depression, insomnia, and combat-related injuries. This is the only program of its kind in Sarasota.

Veterans and their immediate family members can participate in these yoga classes for free.

Garden of the Heart is holding a benefit workshop on March 9 at noon, led by Chaffee and Randall Buskirk, to raise funding and awareness for the Warriors at Ease classes. All are welcome to attend. A donation of $60 will purchase a mat and full set of props for a veteran, but donations of any amount are appreciated.

Location: Garden of the Heart Yoga Center, 2888 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. For more information, call 941-341-9781, email Harriet Roberts, the Seva Yoga Program Coordinator at [email protected] or visit
