Need a summer cooler? Look no further than Café Evergreen in Nokomis for the best of healthy, fresh, organic coolers and smoothies.
Housed in an historic renovated post office/bank building on US 41, midway between Sarasota and Venice, the quaint café features a complete menu for lunch and dinner during the week, and breakfast on weekends. A fresh produce stand and juice bar are standouts for this location.
Ted and Annette Weinberger opened this eco-friendly café in December. Their South Sarasota County locale is the go-to spot for organic smoothies, grass-fed burgers and so much more.
But they’re locally famous for their smoothies. Umm, umm. Choose the signature Evergreen smoothie, the Treehugger, or any of the other delights on the menu. The taste is great and perfect for a southwest Florida afternoon.
Everything’s organic. Here’s the recipe for the Treehugger:
½ cup frozen fruit (bananas, blueberries, peaches are great)
½ c frozen yogurt
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp organic almond butter
½ cup almond milk
½ cup ice
Don’t miss the Kefir water at Café Evergreen. They make it on-site; actually grow it in the old bank vault. “It’s dark in there, and quiet,” Ted says. “Kefir needs that kind of enivornment. The result is a probiotic that tastes great and can be used in many of our recipes and drinks.”
Location: 801 S. Tamiami Trail, Nokomis. Call 941-412-4334 or visit cafeevergreen.net for more information, a complete menu and hours of operation.
