Sixth Annual Pet Blessing and Fair Slated for September 28
Sep 01, 2014 03:05AM
The first local outdoor spiritual service for pet owners and their “furry friends” will focus on the special bond between humans and animals and will be interfaith-oriented. All pets are welcome, but they must be on a leash or inside a crate. The service will begin at 1:10 p.m. at Unity Church of Sarasota.
After the service and throughout the afternoon, the Unity of Sarasota Prayer Chaplains will offer individual blessings to each pet in attendance.
The event includes an interactive agility demonstration from K9 Korral’s Mark Shambour. Wendy Cooper, a Sarasota animal communicator, will be on-hand to help attendees better understand what their pets are thinking and feeling. Award-winning photographer Connie Summers will have her outdoor photo studio set up for gorgeous pet portraits. Other animal experts and vendors will also be on-site.
The Pet Fair offers the unique opportunity for pet lovers to meet the owners behind locally owned and operated Sarasota pet businesses in a relaxed, non-retail environment. These entrepreneurs have dedicated their lives to animal care and have much to share with pet parents, from training advice to nutritional tips.
Attendees will also find adorable, adoptable pets at the Blessing and Fair. Several nonprofit groups will be bringing dogs and cats in search of loving homes. Adoption counselors will be available to help prospective-adopters determine the right type of pet for their home. Dogs and cats have personalities, and choosing the right temperament for a potential new family member is key to making the right long term decision.
For anyone, who has lost a pet, The Pet Blessing and Fair will pay tribute to them at the Memory Tree. Feathers will be available to place in the tree in the name of beloved furry, feathered or finned pets. After the event, resident birds then use the feathers to line their nests and complete the circle of life.
While there is no charge to enter the Pet Fair and Blessing we ask that attendees bring supplies for our local rescue groups and shelters. Unopened pet food, clean blankets, toys, treats and even laundry detergent are items these wonderful nonprofits use on a daily basis to help abandoned animals.
Food and refreshments will be provided by Goodfellow’s with pizza, sandwiches and more. Water for dogs will be available and, of course, the necessary bags.
Location: Unity of Sarasota, 3023 Proctor Rd (between Beneva and Swift on the north side of the street), Sarasota. For more information call Rev. Amy at 941-955-3301 ext. 23.
