I can't believe the holidays are almost here! This is an exciting time for me, since I’m from the northeast and am used to drastic changes in weather and the snowfall that covers the pine trees, giving them that pretty glow. I get to see deer in the woods and watch them search for food while I walk my little Yorkie, Sophie. I have to confess that I decided to choose a wintry scene for the cover since I wanted to bring a little of my hometown in Connecticut to the Sarasota area.
This issue is an exciting one, as it hits on one of my favorite indulgences – pampering at the salon. Check out Non-Toxic Beauty Salons by Sarah Tarver-Wahlquist. With all the holiday planning, we need to take a little time for ourselves, and it’s a great opportunity to get a gift card while you are there.
Please don’t forget our furry friends. They love the holidays, too – as long as there’s not TOO much going on! Do you sleep with your pets? Eric J. Martin offers some interesting insights in his article on Pet Bed-Buddies.
Ellen Sabin gives us a delightful article on involving children in the pleasures of giving, and in learning to show appreciation for the love and gifts they receive. It’s a way to start young readers on the path of conscious living and to get them involved in the spirit of the holidays.
And let’s always remember those who are less fortunate, down on their luck, struggling with medical or personal issues, or alone. A gift of your time to a local nonprofit or a donation to your favorite charity in a loved one’s name could be the greatest gift of all.
In celebration of the season, I send best wishes to our readers across the Suncoast.
