Shop, Adopt, Be Merry at the 4th Annual Jingle Paws Jubilee

The 4th Annual Jingle Paws Jubilee and Cat Depot’s first PawPurr’s Walk will be held at a new, bigger venue – Payne Park in Sarasota.

The more centralized location was selected not only to accommodate more vendors and attendees, but also to provide a walking path around the park for a brand new fundraiser that will kick off the jubilee – The 1st Pawpurr’s Walk, hosted by Cat Depot.

Held at 11 a.m. on December 7, the 1st Pawpurr’s walk will benefit Cat Depot by raising money for homeless, abandoned and injured cats and kittens in the rescue, adoption, education and resource center’s care. Participants will have the option to walk either 1/2 mile or 1 mile (twice around the park), and both dog walkers and cat supporters are welcome to join in the fun!

The cost to participate in the walk is $20 per person. Each registered walker will receive both a T-shirt and goodie bag. Children 10 years of age and under can walk for free if accompanied by a paid and registered adult. Registration will be held the morning of the event between 10 and 10:45 a.m., or walkers can register online at

Immediately following the walk, Jingle Paws Jubilee’s festivities will begin at noon. In addition to 28 local groups with adoptable animals and 60-plus vendors, there will be musical entertainment, agility demonstrations, animal communicators, pet blessings, a caricaturist, a holiday costume contest hosted by The Doggy Diva, photos with Santa taken by internationally published pet photographer Connie Summers, and so much more! Baja Boys Grill, Southern Smoke BBQ Catering and Goodfella’s Café will be providing food at the event. The Purple Belle Ice Cream Truck will also be back, serving up its refreshing and oh-so-sweet treats!

For the first time in Jingle Paws Jubilee’s four-year history, cat and kitten adoptions will be a major part of the festivities.

“This year, the move to Payne Park in downtown Sarasota has provided an opportunity to invite our local animal groups to bring cats and kittens to Jingle Paws Jubilee for adoption,” says Lynn Rasys, director of communications for Cat Depot. “Adjacent to the field where all of the outdoor festivities will take place is a community building that Cat Depot has secured for the day, so that we can showcase the cats and kittens that are available for adoption in our community. The kitties will be indoors in an air-conditioned and quiet facility, away from the often-stressful sounds of barking dogs.”

Adoptions of cats and kittens will be held from noon to 4 p.m. during the event. To make finding the “purr-fect” feline friend easier than ever, all of the animal groups bringing cats and kittens have agreed on set prices. Kittens will be available for $30 each, and cats will be available for $20 each. Exotic cats will be priced individually.

At press time, the animal groups that will be bringing kittens and cats to Jingle Paws Jubilee for adoption include Cat Depot, E.A.R.S. Rescue & Sanctuary, Humane Society of Sarasota County, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, St. Francis Animal Rescue and Venice Cat Coalition. Additional animal groups are expected to sign up to participate before the day of the event.

Shelley Thayer, executive director of Cat Depot, has been organizing the cat and kitten adoptions for the event. “Our goal is to find homes for 100 cats in just four hours,” she says. “For anyone, who is looking to adopt a cat or kitten this holiday season, Jingle Paws Jubilee will be the place to be! We will have both Sarasota and Manatee county nonprofit organization with cats and kittens available for adoption – all under one roof. It’s going to be fantastic!”

Parking and admission to Jingle Paws Jubilee is free. All attendees, however, are asked to bring a bag or cans of unopened cat or dog food, treats or toys, which will be distributed to the animal groups in attendance following the event.

Open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Handicap accessible. The Cat Depot Supply and Gift Store is open daily, specializing in top brands of wet and dry cat food, litter, calming products, treats and unique gifts for cats and cat lovers.
