Jan 31, 2015 11:46PM
The Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast received a $200,000 capping grant from the William G. Selby and Marie Selby Foundation. The funds will help permanently conserve up to 1,000 acres adjoining other protected lands along the Myakka River.
The grant will cap the fundraising goal, once Conservation Foundation raises $3.8 million toward the property purchase, by the end of 2015.
The project is called the Myakka Island Conservation Corridor and will protect the Myakka River, restore the floodplain, expand habitat for rare species and improve water quality to Charlotte Harbor National Estuary.
