Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota Hosts Back-to-School Open House

Sep 05, 2015 02:45AM

Parents looking for an alternative to traditional religious school education might want to attend the Back-to-School Kick-Off Party at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota.

This event, which is open to all, takes place September 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m., and provides an opportunity for parents to learn about the curriculum of the religious education program and to see if it might be a good fit for their family. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be served and a giant slip-n-slide will be available for kids.

The church’s Religious Education Program offers a progressive education for people looking for a non-dogmatic approach to teaching children. The curriculum is educational and inclusive, stressing the inherent worth and dignity of all beings. The focus is on making this world better for all residents – both human and animal – through social justice, community service and respect for diverse beliefs. Unitarian Universalist (UU) religious education taps into the wisdom of many sources in helping children navigate a complex world using critical thinking skills, discernment, faith, spirit and compassion.

Children’s religious education programs are offered on Sunday mornings. A nursery is available, as well as a Pre-K through 1st Grade classroom, 2nd through 5th Grade classroom and a teen room for youth.

Location: 3975 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota. For more information, call 941-371-4974 or visit
