Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Now Available in Sarasota
Nov 03, 2015 07:45PM
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the Gold Standard for stress reduction, with over 35 years of research by founder Jon Kabat Zinn, PhD. After years of practice on his own, Don Reed Simmons trained with Kabat-Zinn in 1998, advancing his awareness of meditation’s health benefits.
When combined with sound therapy, Simmons discovered meditation’s results were both quicker and gentler. Simmons, president of the International Sound Therapy Association (ISTA), a non-profit organization promoting the benefits of sound and vibration, has been teaching meditation and therapeutic sound for over 20 years in Los Angeles, Honolulu and Atlanta.
“Up to 90% of all office visits to health care professionals are for stress related disorders” (Mind-Body Medical Institute at Harvard University). As for sound usage, Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, former Director of Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine at Strang-Cornell Cancer Prevention Center says, “Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.”
Simmons will be teaching eight-week and retreat style workshops on MBSR. His next workshop will take place on November 28, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and November 29, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., in Sarasota. Bring water, yoga mat and meditation pillow, journaling supplies and lunch for Saturday. Wear comfortable clothes.
