The Crystal Cave: Your Holiday Destination to Make this Season “Sparkle”

Dec 11, 2015 03:16PM ● By Mary-Elizabeth Schurrer

Revered for centuries based on their metaphysical properties and restorative energies, crystals evoke fascination, inspiration and a spiritual connection within many people. One such individual is Susan Moen, founder and sole-proprietor of The Crystal Cave, an alluring retreat on Fruitville Road that specializes in sourcing authentic minerals, stones, fossils and, of course, crystals from around the world.

A self-taught practitioner of the ancient crystal therapy art, Moen has been passionately honing her craft for several decades. “After being a rock hound (avid stone and mineral collector) since childhood, I morphed into crystal healing 30 years ago,” she explains.

Guided by this innate magnetic-like pull, Moen opened a metaphysical boutique in Massachusetts which she aptly named The Crystal Cave. After operating in New England for 18 years, Moen later found herself seduced by Southwest Florida’s “vibrant metaphysical community.” So, she relocated down to Sarasota where The Crystal Cave has flourished over these past two years.

Moen identifies amethyst and quartz among her most popular sellers, both of which emit soothing vibrations—ideal for counteracting holiday-induced tension with inner peace. Amethyst coaxes physical and emotional balance, while quartz promotes harmonious energy-flow and heightened clarity. Together, these stones serve as natural stress relievers throughout the season’s characteristic “hustle and bustle.”

In addition, The Crystal Cave offers a unique and eclectic treasure trove of jewelry, pendulums, carvings, chimes, suncatchers, Tibetan singing bowls and other awe-inspiring sundries. “A sacred gift from the earth is a truly special way to delight your loved ones during the holidays,” exudes Moen.

This calming, therapeutic sanctuary also hosts a diverse array of events, workshops and readings each month. In fact, on December 4, the community is invited to experience the wellness-enhancing benefits of sound meditation, guided by accomplished Reiki practitioner Edward Russell. “The sound vibrations from crystal bowls and gongs will provide relaxation during this hectic season of constant activity and running around,” adds Moen.

She continues, “We will kick off holiday shopping on December 5, from 2–4 p.m., featuring music by local singer-songwriter Michael Miller, accompanied by vocalist and ukulele player Alex Foster. There will also be festive snacks to nourish you while choosing that special gift!” Additionally, throughout this month, The Crystal Cave will expand its hours of operation in order to accommodate the season’s upsurge in retail demand. “Our regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m.–5 p.m., but we will be open on Mondays until December 21 for your crystal gift-giving needs,” Moen clarifies.

So, as that annual flurry of holiday commotion descends upon you over these next several weeks, reclaim your serenity by stepping inside this spiritually-centered haven, located in Sarasota’s historic downtown village. After all, it’s “crystal clear” that sometimes we all need a personal reprieve to make the entire season sparkle with healing energy.
