Rock the Bhakti this New Year’s Eve at Garden of the Heart Yoga

December 31 marks Garden of the Heart Yoga Center’s second annual New Year’s Eve Kirtan Jam. This free event will kick off the “Rock the Bhakti” Kirtan and Yoga Festival.

Kirtan is a spiritual practice of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of love, service and devotion. Kirtan, a musical practice, is typically done with a leader and “responders,” where the leader chants (or sings) a mantra, and everyone else repeats it back to create a spiritual sing-along.
On New Year’s Eve, the Kirtan community will gather at 8 p.m. for a vegan potluck, after which the music will begin.

Everyone is invited to participate and bring an instrument, drum, song, poem or favorite mantra. No previous experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome. The event will end around 12:30 a.m., after we ring in the New Year.

The rest of the weekend will offer opportunities to participate in both Kirtan and yoga as well. On January 1, 2016, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Garden of the Heart will hold its annual New Year’s Day Benefit class which is free to attend (donations to a cause are accepted). Afterward, the fun will continue with more Kirtan and yoga classes and workshops through January 3.

Local and nationally known Kirtan artists will participate including Wah!, Missy Balsam, Blue Spirit Wheel, Cheryl Chaffee, Rick Franz and others. This event will culminate with a Healing Concert by Wah! at Bradenton’s Bishop Planetarium in Bradenton, 9 p.m.

Location: 2888 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. For the festival schedule and ticket pricing (including an all-inclusive weekend option), visit GardenOfTheHeartYoga.com. For more information, call 941-341-9781 or email [email protected]
