Mindfulness, Food and Body Image Workshop 

From January 14 to February 18, 6–7:30 p.m., the Sarasota Mindfulness Institute will present a six-week Mindfulness, Food and Body Image workshop on Thursday evenings. Each class will include mindfulness meditation instruction and practice. There will also be discussions, questions and special topics such as eating experiences, family history, how to recognize self-sabotage, and how to nurture yourself around food and body image.  

The instructor, Lily Myers, M.A., is a licensed mental health counselor and mindfulness meditation teacher with over 25 years’ experience leading groups in various settings. She trained with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program in 1989, and received advanced teacher training at the Center for Mindfulness in 2001. She has a private practice in mindfulness-based psychotherapy in Sarasota. 

This program is open to women interested in exploring their relationship with food and body image, using mindfulness to bring awareness to unhealthy eating habits and negative thoughts or emotions around body image. Mindfulness can help restore balance to the entire process of eating, as well as help befriend and cultivate kindness towards ourselves to improve health and well-being. Pre-registration is required, as the class is limited to 12 participants.
