In Chinese Medicine, Depression is considered a symptom associated with an impaired flow of blood and Qi to the brain, making the cognitive function less than optimal and dull. Therefore, the method used to “jump-start” the brain and alleviate depression is engaging in creative activities that cause an abundance of blood and Qi to flow to the brain.
Activities such as painting, drawing, journaling, singing and, especially, dancing are beneficial for achieving this. Implement these activities into your regular routine, and don’t be surprised if you discover those feelings of depression suddenly turning into excitement and joy. You have nothing to lose, but on a cautionary note, consult with your physician prior to engaging in physical activities that could prove too strenuous for your body.
