Chinese Health Gem of the Month: Nutrition for the Face

Dec 31, 2016 04:55PM

by Rene Ng, DOM, AP, L.Ac.

In Chinese Medicine, lines, wrinkles, age spots, puffiness, rashes, pimples and other conditions that appear on the face are directly related to imbalances happening inside your body. In China, nutrition is the primary means for maintaining the balance in the body, and this practice helps keep the face looking healthy, lustrous and young. For example, foods that have been known to address dark spots and facial discoloration include the following:

  • Tomatoes

  • Mung Beans

  • Eggplants

  • Peas

  • Cucumbers

  • Chinese Cabbage

  • Water Chestnuts

In addition, the following foods can help brighten and energize the eyes:

  • Yams

  • Carrots

  • Apricots

  • Seaweed

  • Walnuts

  • Almonds

  • Fish
