“Touch to Inform” Seminars
The founder of the Feldenkrais® method Moshe Feldenkrais, D. Sc., has been quoted as saying, “The nervous system, as well as the body, works to restore equilibrium rather than keep it. The structure and function of the nervous system provide the principles and means to guide us to efficient use of ourselves. This is essential if we are to learn to function in harmony with ourselves. Harmonious efficient movement prevents wear and tear. More important, however, is what it does to the image of ourselves and our relationship to the world around us.”
In keeping with this foundational concept, Bonnie Kissam, MA, a local Feldenkrais® practitioner, will be offering two one-day “Touch to Inform” seminars this month at Ionie’s, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. On May 20, she will present “Moving from and through Your Core” to help participants rediscover their core strength and their ability to counterbalance for optimal action and stability. Also, on May 21, she will present “Soft Eyes/Hands, East Neck/Shoulders” which helps participants notice where tightness and stiffness occurs in the body and how to alleviate it through movement.
In addition, Kissam will also host a birthday celebration in honor of Moshe Feldenkrais on May 15, 6–8 p.m. The cost to attend is $15 which includes a two-hour “Awareness through Movement” class, taking place at Ionie’s.
Location: 1241 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota. To register for “Touch to Inform,” call 941-360-2248. To register for the birthday celebration, call 941-587-4535. For more information, email [email protected] or visit FeldenkraisInSarasota.com.
