Letter from the Publisher July 2017

Summer is a time of year that we predominately spend outside in nature, but the seasonal heat and humidity can often leave our bodies feeling both sluggish and depleted. That’s why the latest issue of Natural Awakenings is all about holistic methods of detoxification to revitalize our energy, so we can maximize that summer fun!

First, be sure to check out this month’s feature article on “Natural Detox Options” which delves into the various elements that center around a consistent lifestyle of detoxification to maintain whole-body wellness. From organic produce and microgreens to herbs and spices to hydration and gentle cleanses to spiritual practices and creative expression to stress relief and physical exertion, this article is packed with ideas to help jump-start your own sustainable detox regimen.

Speaking of exercise, our “Break a Sweat to Detox” article is another great resource for learning how to flush toxins from your system through a high-energy, rejuvenating workout routine. In addition, part of keeping your body detoxified on a regular basis means fueling those summertime activities with nutrient-dense foods that are gentle on your digestive system. This month’s “Conscious Eating” article offers suggestions for being “Vegan on the Road,” with convenient and wholesome plant-based options for the whole family––even while on vacation!

Finally, let’s not forger about our four-legged family members. That’s right, detoxification is safe for animals too, and our “Heavy Metal Dog Detox” article explains how feeding your pets clean produce and meats, enzymes, prebiotics and probiotics, as well as finding a local naturopathic veterinarian, can enhance––or perhaps even extend––their quality of life.

That’s just a glimpse of all the insight you’ll find in this issue, and I can’t wait for you to start reading. As always, feel free to send comments, questions or general feedback to [email protected]. Here’s to another month of fun in the sun!
