Sarasota Center of Light Celebrates Sixty-Eighth Anniversary
Oct 30, 2017 07:24PM
Sarasota Center of Light will celebrate its sixty-eighth year in Sarasota on November 4. It was founded as the Shrine of the Master in 1949 by Rev. Dorothy and Dr. Russell Flexer, a husband-and-wife team of Spiritualist ministers.
The Flexers’ dreams for the Shrine of the Master were to give people an awareness and understanding of spiritual truth that was practically applicable to everyday life. As this philosophy evolved in response to the ever-changing views and interpretations of spirituality, we were inspired to take a closer look at how we expressed ourselves as a church. In 2010, we chose to change the name of our denomination from Metaphysical Christianity to Metaphysical Spirituality, and the name Shrine of the Master to Sarasota Center of Light.
Through the guidance of Spirit and many that have served this church over the decades, the Shrine of the Master has evolved into a “Center of Light,” a beacon that shines brightly and allows each individual to discover, express and experience their own connection with Spirit and God. On November 5 at noon, following the 10:30 a.m. service, a Founders Day Celebration will be held at the Center in Davis Hall. A luncheon will be served with all the trimmings. There will be live music by Sal Garcia, founder of the famous band OMNI, prizes, raffles and a silent auction. Come be part of the celebration and connection.
