Salute the Sun and Serve Others in Need
Aug 31, 2018 11:40PM
On September 15, Cheryl Chaffee, owner of Garden of the Heart Yoga, and Amy Osborne, owner of North Port Yoga, will collaborate to lead a fundraiser for Karma Yoga Outreach Inc., a local non-profit organization that brings yoga to special populations in the Sarasota-North Port-Bradenton area.
The event begins at 1:08 pm, and all yoga students and teachers are invited to participate in doing 108 Sun Salutations to raise money and awareness for Karma Yoga Outreach Inc. KYO is currently bringing free yoga classes daily to the McKay Academy, a school for children on the Autism Spectrum and other Sensory Processing Disorders. KYO leads free yoga classes for Veterans and their family members at both Garden of the Heart Yoga and North Port Yoga every Wednesday. In addition, KYO is now leading free Y12SR classes (Yoga for 12 Step Recovery) through Manatee County Drug Court.
Yogis are challenged to raise $108 for the event, but the bigger challenge seems like it would be actually doing 108 Sun Salutations. In reality, the workout takes less than two hours, and is so much fun. Modifications are offered to make the challenge achievable, and full participation is not required. Anyone can come and show their support by doing a few sun salutations or contributing a few dollars.
Location: 2888 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. For more information, call 941-341-9781 or visit GardenOfTheHeartYoga.com and KarmaYogaOutreach.org.
