Letter from the Publisher August 2018
It’s that time of year once again—back-to-school season is here, and whether you’re the parent of kindergartener or college student, this transition from a relaxed summer to a more structured routine can feel hectic. In the midst of shopping for number-two pencils, making healthy lunches, organizing the carpool, monitoring the homework grind and flitting between extracurricular activities, your personal sanity and well-being can get lost in the shuffle.
But fear not, back-to-school warriors: this month’s issue of Natural Awakenings is loaded with advice on how to prioritize your whole family’s health—including your own—no matter how demanding that schedule might be.
Our feature article for August is on the topic of “Simplified Parenting” which anyone raising school-age children can attest is an undeniable necessity. This article offers suggestions on how to parent with minimal stress to maximize the enjoyment and strengthen the relationship as your kids grow older. This nurtures a positive, sustainable connection in the long-term and helps you become a more confident, less frazzled parent.
Next, this month’s “Healthy Kids” article focuses on building your children’s immunity against those classroom germs and airborne illnesses they encounter during the school year. This not only keeps their bodies functioning optimally—it protects your entire household from pesky cold and flu symptoms too. Some techniques this article suggests for bolstering kids’ immune systems include nutrition, herbs, essential oils, homeopathy, movement and outdoor playtime.
Finally, wellness isn’t just about nurturing the body—it’s about building character too. This month’s “Inspiration” article discusses the benefits of compassionate living and teaching your children to practice kindness in their daily interactions. Whether they’re in the classroom, the cafeteria line, the playground, the soccer field or the dance studio, kids can have a positive influence on their peers when they learn to respect and appreciate others.
As this back-to-school season approaches, the team here at Natural Awakenings hopes the resources found in this issue will minimize your stress and optimize your health. Please send any comments, questions or feedback to Publisher@NASRQ.com., and here’s to an enjoyable, enriching year!Edit ModuleShow Tags
