Natural Facial Rejuvenation

by Christina Captain, DAOM, MSAOM, MSHN, MA

We all strive to age gracefully. For some of us, looking for the next “miracle cure” to reduce wrinkles and fine lines seems like a second job. There are so many options, from topical creams and hand-held stimulators to procedures that promise the fountain of youth.

In my experience, aging gracefully is a combination of good genes, good nutrition and good skincare. There are several alternative options for maintaining your beauty, and at Family Healing Center, we can help you find the ideal regimen to achieve your goals. This article discusses cosmetic acupuncture, microcurrent facial rejuvenation and plant based bio-injectables.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

The Mei Zen (beautiful person) treatment is one of many cosmetic acupuncture styles. The procedure is founded on the belief that, if the body is brought into balance, the face will naturally reflect that balance.

For this reason, each Mei Zen session includes a full-body acupuncture treatment. In addition, numerous tiny pins are placed on the face, in specific points and areas of most concern. These tiny needles create a microinflammation in the mesoderm of the facial skin to effectively simulate more elastin and collagen production, enabling a refreshed look.

At the same time, pore size is also significantly reduced. The effects of the Mei Zen treatment are said to last around three to five years, depending upon nutritional status, skin damage and overall genetics. Most individuals will return for booster treatments once per month, once per quarter or as needed, depending on the results. The course of treatment is twice per week during five weeks for a total of 10 sessions.

Microcurrent Facial Rejuvenation

This treatment style is utilized when individuals have an aversion to needles or cannot risk any bruising whatsoever due to an upcoming event such as a gala or wedding. Another specific use of microcurrent is to raise drooped eyelids and brows.

By targeting those areas, this technique can tone the musculature of the head and possibly alter the look. Microcurrent stimulation is applied to the face using probes, pads and wands. This current encourages elastin and collagen production and increases blood flow to the face. The result is a toned, smooth appearance that lasts three to six months. The course of treatment is once per week for six weeks.

Plant Bio-Injectables

Plant-based injectables like cytokines, coenzymes, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are utilized, either as injectables or in a micro-needling technique to hydrate the face and reduce fine lines or wrinkles.  Injections can be utilized as a stand-alone treatment or in addition to either the cosmetic acupuncture or microcurrent facial rejuvenation. Typically, once per week for three to six weeks will make a noticeable improvement.
