Natural Awakenings Sarasota / Manatee / Charlotte

Letter from the Publisher January 2019

Welcome to 2019, readers! I want to extend my personal gratitude to all of you for supporting our mission to inspire wellness in the community for another year. Because you engage with our content, the Natural Awakenings team is able to continue delivering our passion in print. So thank you—and now let’s jump into the first issue of this New Year!

The feature article for this month is on “Feeding, Cleansing and Strengthening Key Organs” which is particularly beneficial after all that indulgence over the holidays. Seasonal feasting is both pleasurable and memorable, but it can also be taxing on the body. This article focuses on the importance of detoxification to help the organs reset and revitalize. With proper nutrition and supplements, you can cleanse the liver, heart, brain, lungs, kidneys and other vital organs.

Nutrition is just as crucial to the mind as it is to the body, and our “Conscious Eating” article for January is all about the psychology of eating. This piece delves into how your thoughts about food can have as much of an impact on your health as the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients themselves can. This is why a mindful eating practice should be integral to your nutrition plan for the New Year because it teaches you how to listen to your own body and discern the type of food it needs in order to thrive.

Another facet of healthy living in the New Year is exercise, and this month’s “Fit Body” article explores the ideal of moving through life with a functional workout routine. From dancing to plyometrics to the Feldenkrais Method, these kinds of fitness can help you become more equipped to perform everyday tasks. Functional exercise is a sustainable approach to your fitness resolutions because this type of workout focuses on strength and stamina over aesthetics.

As usual, this is just scratching the surface of all the inspiration you’ll find in our January issue. Please send any questions, comments or feedback to [email protected]—and here’s to a healthy, prosperous 2019!
