Spotlight on Nature: Improve Your Health by Interacting with the Natural World
Many of us are frightened or even outraged by the present state of our climate and what it could mean for the future of this planet. However, one action you can take to help alleviate some of this fear is to acquaint yourself with an aspect of the natural world that maybe you haven’t encountered before. Whether this means a regular walk in the woods or a daily dose of sunshine, it’s so beneficial to synchronize your own routine with the rhythms of the cosmos.
This is an excellent way to ground yourself (i.e. normalize your energetic flow and transfer negative emotions into the ground, which can absorb it) and feel more rooted in your body. The sunshine (in healthy doses for your particular skin tone and type) is not a toxin, but rather a balm and nutrient for both your pleasure and well-being. In addition to emitting Vitamin D, solar energy will also help generate endorphins and activate your mitochondria.
As you commune with nature, listen to the trees and the breeze instead of turning on music or a podcast. Observe the birds nesting and the squirrels chasing one another, then once you step back inside, carve out some time to read the Earth Charter. This is a constitution for the New World, which we can choose to pursue. In fact, many nodes of it exist in the web of life already. Each of us can do our part to regenerate this planet.
