Natural Awakenings Sarasota / Manatee / Charlotte

July 2015

The month of July always reminds me of those typical summer activities I spend all year looking forward to: family barbecues, relaxing at the beach and long nature walks, to name just a few. Since I’m from the Northeast, these are activities I used to wait many months to enjoy, but now Sarasota offers me these outdoor pleasures year-round. Plus, now I get to share with you some tips on how to turn your own summer cookouts into healthy, slimmed down fun!

Like many of us, I love to eat while trying to maintain a nutritious yet tasty diet. I also avoid red meat which is why I’m excited that this issue focuses on food democracy and the benefits of a plant-based diet. Please check out the article on Veggie Nation Revolution, as it explains the benefits why eating your greens is important, not only for health reasons, but also to promote an eco-friendly environment. In addition, there are some delicious non meat-based recipes for your next barbecue, so try them and let me know what you think!

I also recommend that you read this month’s Natural Pet article. Whether you are taking a short trip or a long vacation, there is always the anxiety of leaving your pets in the wrong hands. I personally rely on pet-sitters over friends, as I feel the best sitters are those who make an effort to get to know your pets and their needs before taking on any care-giving responsibilities. This article will give you some helpful tips for overcoming the fear of leaving your “furry friends” behind and enjoying your time away, worry-free.

I hope you all enjoy this issue and have a wonderful July Fourth holiday!
