Letter from the Publisher March 2019
Our short-lived Floridian winter has blossomed into spring, and this month’s issue of Natural Awakenings is a-flutter with inspiration and illumination as we enter this new season. Here’s a peek inside all that awaits you in our March edition—I promise, you’re in for a delight!
Our feature article for this month is titled “Nutrition Upgrades,” and it discusses five nourishing strategies to optimize your health as the temperatures increase, and more time is spent outdoors. Practicing balanced nutrition is a holistic way to enhance your well-being from the inside out.
And on the topic of well-being, it’s no surprise to anyone that springtime is also known as allergy season. Our “Fit Body” article offers insight on how to exercise control of allergies with—you guessed it—exercise. These symptoms can be tamed with gentle movement such as yoga which provides relief from both respiratory and inflammatory discomfort.
In addition, this month’s “Healthy Kid” column also dives into this subject with advice on how to sustain an allergen-free home to benefit those little immune systems—and the whole family. Some of these pointers include trading in your mainstream household cleaners for the more eco-friendly varieties, and choosing furniture, linens, mattresses, and floors made from natural, as opposed to synthetic, materials. This might sound basic, but it can lead to major health improvements.
Finally, our “Conscious Eating” article focuses on a unique and unorthodox culinary trend for this season—food scraps! These leftovers are no longer just used for stocks, broths and sauces, but are now being incorporated into both entrees and desserts. This is an excellent way to reduce waste and get creative in the kitchen. Banana peel cake, anyone?
Well, as usual, that only scratches the surface of everything our latest issue has to offer. Please send any comments, questions or feedback to [email protected] And here’s to soaking in all the beauty and wonders of spring!
