Letter From Publisher April 2020 Edition

April is beloved for many reasons—spring is in bloom, colored eggs are in the backyard, and Earth Day is just around the corner. In fact, to celebrate this eco-friendly occasion on April 22, this month’s issue of Natural Awakenings is all about the various climate solutions we can incorporate into our daily routines and lives. Small changes make a long-term impact on the future of this earth—and those changes start with each one of us joined together, united with purpose and conviction.

We can’t all take our cues from activists like Greta Thunburg and sail across the Atlantic Ocean in a zero-emissions yacht, but this month’s feature article, “Grassroots Climate Strategies” offers practical advice on how to combat environmental issues with the resources that are accessible to us right now. This article explores some of the unique and creative ways that people use their imaginations to make a difference in communities around the world and inspire others to take action as well. If we commit to these incremental steps, we could reduce our carbon footprint and make this planet safer and healthier for everyone.

On this topic of daily activism efforts, our “Green Living” article for this month focuses on how to become an effective climate warrior, told from the viewpoint of those on the frontlines. From passionate teenagers and social media influencers, to informed educators and single mothers, to conscious Baby Boomers and senior citizens, people from all demographics can learn what it takes to prioritize climate solutions.

Finally, these responsible initiatives start in our own four walls, and this month’s “Healing Ways” article describes how we can transform our homes into “spiritual headquarters” where deep nourishment, self-care and well-being can be found. When we invite health into the spaces where we spend most of our time, these intentions trickle outward into other areas of life too, so we become more rooted, mindful and aware as human beings, members of the community and citizens of planet earth.

The team here at Natural Awakenings wishes all of you a beautiful Earth Day and abundant month of April. Please send any questions, comments or feedback to [email protected], and join us in this eco-friendly conversation. It’s always a pleasure to hear the thoughts of our readers, and in the meantime, enjoy this latest issue!
