Natural Awakenings Sarasota / Manatee / Charlotte

Letter From Publisher September 2025

As we switch gears from the relaxed pace of summer into the busier season of fall, it’s important not to sacrifice your wellness on the altar of productivity. After all, health is crucial for staying on top of the numerous activities that roll around this time of year—from after-school commitments to weekend football tailgates. Fortunately, this month’s Natural Awakenings issue has the physical, mental, emotional, and even relational wellness inspiration you need for a vibrant transition. It’s time to make this your healthiest season to date!

Let’s jump right in with our September feature article, which explores the holistic benefits of gut health restoration. You’ll discover how certain factors like diet, stress, toxins, or lifestyle choices affect your gut microbiome—plus, which changes you can make to create digestive balance and resilience. With mindful, intentional care (rather than trendy quick fixes), it’s possible to cultivate robust and sustainable gut health that will last for years to come.

Next on the docket, September is National Yoga Month, and our “Fit Body” article celebrates this ancient wellness practice and its restorative impact on the gut-brain axis. With its powerful combination of Ayurvedic techniques, gentle postures, mindful awareness, and conscious breathwork, yoga has been found to calm the nervous system, enhance digestion, and relieve pain or discomfort in the gut. Whether you visit a local studio or roll out your mat at home, there is no better time to experience yoga’s healing benefits for yourself.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a September issue without mentioning back to school, and this month’s “Healthy Kids” article offers practical insights on how to nurture children’s social development through emotional presence, trust, co-regulation, and empathy. From academics in the classroom, to the pressure of making new friends, to the stimulation of extra-curricular activities, this season can be hard for children to navigate. But with guidance from the adults in their lives, kids can flourish with healthy social skills and enter the school year with confidence.

You know the drill—this is just a quick snapshot of all the enjoyment and enlightenment that awaits you inside these pages. I wish you a refreshing start to the vibrant fall season, and I look forward to continuing this wellness journey as we round the corner into those final months of 2025. I’ll see you back here next month (preferably with a warm beverage in hand!).
