Yoga in Action
Yoga means union—a link between human and the divine, of matter and energy. In this era of fragmentation, union is a survival strategy. So many of us experience loneliness in the midst of our bustling lives, which can fuel anxiety, depression, illness, or self-harm.
Humans are communal creatures. We need each other, and we require both trust and cooperation to create anything. Instead, we have been fed a myth of “rugged individualism”— the superhero who can perform impossible feats, the star athlete who eclipses a whole team, the A-list actor who carries a film to financial success.
However, life is a team sport. Indigenous wisdom explains that each of us—while bearing unique skills and gifts—must be upheld by a communal family or tribe.
Yoga connects an individual to the larger whole. By releasing the small personal ego, a person can use this ancient practice to reconnect with the benevolence of this sentient universe. With that aim in mind, I and three other colleagues have created a website called GrokingWholeness.info. This resource can guide you to experience the holistic benefits of yoga such as balance, creativity, mindfulness, physical health, and more, so you can bring them to the forefront in the midst of life’s daily routines.
